Speaker Intro
Note: This introduction may be modified for length.
Jean Driscoll is a world class athlete, Olympian,
author, motivational speaker and advocate world-wide for persons with
disabilities. She has worked as a television sports commentator and is the
co-founder of a non profit organization called Determined to Win.
Jean is a graduate of the University of Illinois where she earned a B.A.
in Speech Communication and a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation
Administration. She has also received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from the
University of Rhode Island and the Massachusetts School of Law.
Jean has won the Boston Marathon eight times and is the only person in the
100 plus year history of the event to achieve that feat. She is an Olympic
athlete who won silver medals in the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympic Games
and a four-time Paralympic athlete with five gold medals to her credit.
Sports Illustrated for Women recognizes Jean as one of the top 25 female
athletes of the 20th century.
Jean has served as a corporate spokesperson for Ocean Spray, United
Airlines, and Litehouse Foods. She has been featured on Good Morning
America, the Today Show, ABC Nightline, Lifetime TV, Oxygen Sports, ESPN
and CNN.
Jean is very active as a global advocate and hands-on coach with Wheels
for the World, a program of Joni and Friends, Inc. Through this program,
used wheelchairs are restored to like-new condition and distributed in
third world or economically challenged countries. Jean traveled to Ghana,
West Africa in 2001 and 2002 to teach athletes and coaches about the sport
of wheelchair track. In 2003 Jean teamed up with Joni and Friends, several
Champaign, IL area Rotary Clubs, Rotary International, and numerous donors
and supporters to bring eight athletes and two coaches from Ghana to the
US. The athletes were fitted with their first ever racing chairs and
everyday chairs. In September 2004, Ghana hopes to send its first team of
athletes in history to represent their country at the Paralympic Games in
Athens, Greece.
In November 2003, Jean was honored as a Godmother of Royal Caribbean’s
newest ship at the time, Mariner of the Seas. (Being invited to be a
Godmother is one of the highest honors in the cruising industry.) Jean
joined other Olympians honored by Royal Caribbean as Godmothers such as
Stefi Graf, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Katarina Witt.

Travel Information
Travel arrangements can be worked out cooperatively
between Pat Fettig, Jean's business manager.
Airfare, airport transportation, meals on the day of event, and hotel
accommodations are required.
Round trip air travel will usually be arranged by Jean directly and
invoiced immediately following the booking of the flight. (Cost will be
pre-approved by you.) We usually ask that you take care of the details
regarding airport transportation and hotel accommodations.
Jean does not require any special accommodations in transportation or
hotel due to her disability. In fact, she prefers not to
have an accessible room if that room has a roll in shower.
Room Set Up
1. Lavaliere (preferred) or cordless microphone
2. Stage at a height that the audience will all be able to see Jean
clearly.
3. Ramp to get on stage if the stage requires it.
4. Table available to speak with audience members and sell books (when
this has been pre-arranged.) Location should be focal to flow of outgoing audience
traffic.
